Sea Hear now is taking it to the streets.
The hit Asbury Park oceanfront festival, which will take place Sept. 13 and 14, is holding a “Kickoff on Cookman” event from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park between Bond Street and Bangs Avenue. The Bumpin Uglies, Brick + Mortar, Kufknotz and the Lakehouse Music Academy Band will perform in the free event, presented by Netflix.
The Bumpin Uglies, a reggae groove group from Maryland, play the main fest on Saturday, Sept. 13. The headliners for the fest are Hozier on Saturday, Sept. 13, and Blink-182 on Sunday, Sept. 14.
The festival late night shows, also announced on Wednesday, Aug. 6, include G. Love and Special Sauce, Friday, Sept 12, at the Stone Pony; the annual There Goes the Neighborhood with Jarod Clemons, Blaise and Echo Plum, also on Sept. 12, at the Wonder Bar; and the Ocean Avenue Stomp, which often features headliners from the festival, Sept. 13 at the Stone Pony.
Lenny Kravitz, Sublime, Public Enemy, LCD Soundsystem, Alabama Shakes, ZZ Top, De La Soul, UB40, TV On The Radio and more are playing the main fest.
Sea Hear Now is produced by C3 Presents, the team behind Lollapalooza, and locals Danny Clinch and Tim Donnelly. Clinch is a Toms River native who has photographed the greats of music, from Springsteen to Tupac Shakur.
His Transparent Clinch Gallery, which showcases live performances and Clinch’s photos, is adjacent to The Asbury hotel on the city’s waterfront.
The Sea Hear Now festival celebrating music, surf and art continues Sept. 15, 2024, on the beach and north boardwalk of Asbury Park.
The Sea Hear Now festival, which includes surfing and visual art, began in 2018 in Asbury Park, and has been held yearly except for 2020 when the pandemic forced its cancellation.
It draws 35,000 to the waterfront each year.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Noah Kahan headlined last year.
