HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) —  Punk is more than leather, studs and loud guitars – it’s an attitude.

A culture of acceptance, rebellion and thriving in the cracks of conformity, that is powered by DIY grit.

The Huntsville Museum of Art will host an exhibit called “Days of Punk: Photographs by Michael Grecco,” which will run from Oct. 17 through Feb. 1, 2026.

The show features more than 100 images from Michael Grecco, an award-winning photographer and filmmaker who chronicled the underground punk scenes of New York and Boston during the late 1970s and early ’80s.

His lens captured the raw energy and rebellious ethos of the movement, from sweaty club performances to candid street moments. Icons such as Adam Ant, Billy Idol, The Clash, Joan Jett and Johnny Rotten appear in the collection, offering a vivid look into the faces that defined punk’s unapologetic attitude.

“Michael Grecco’s work immerses visitors in a moment when music, fashion and attitude collided to create a movement that continues to inspire generations,” Christopher Madkour, Executive Director of the museum, said.

For Grecco, the project is personal.

“When I walked into my first punk club in Boston at age 18, I found myself in a world where everyone belonged,” he said. “Punk was bold, self-expressed and free. It gave me permission to be myself.”

The exhibition has already made international stops in Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom, earning critical praise for its gritty yet intimate portrayal of punk’s heyday.

As part of the Huntsville showing, Grecco will deliver an artist talk on Nov. 6, giving visitors a chance to hear behind-the-scenes stories of photographing some of rock’s most infamous rebels.

The exhibit got additional support from local patrons and organizations, including the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
