In a bold but questionable move, HBO has renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season, ahead of the release of its first season (Deadline). The six-episode prequel, set to premiere on January 18, 2026, marks the third series in the Game of Thrones franchise following House of the Dragon.

However, the renewal appears more hasty than strategic, especially amid the uncertainty surrounding how the debut season will be received. Concerns also remain due to the polarizing finale of Game of Thrones and the mixed reactions to House of the Dragon Season 2.
