Those catching new horror film Kong Tao in cinemas will realise one thing: Why is Glenn Yong the only one who looks so good throughout?
The Malaysia-Singapore-Thailand production, which premiered on Mar 19, also stars Thai star Kao Supassara, Hong Kong actor Phillip Keung as well as local content creator Mayiduo.
The other characters in the movie either die gruesomely or had their faces covered in blood or crawling maggots, while the 29-year-old remained almost “clean” all the way.
In a recent interview with Chinese media Zaobao.sg, the TC Candler 100 Most Handsome Faces winner explained why he was the only cast member who escaped from a face full of gory make-up.
Is it because he has an “idol baggage”? The actor was quick to deny it: “I don’t have concerns at all!”
In fact, Glenn did ask the production team about it.
“Why does everyone else get such intense and striking scenes, while mine is so ‘safe’?” he probed.
That was when they told him they had no choice because they needed someone to be the “visual” of the film, by which they presumably meant a strikingly good-looking face of the film to draw the audience in.
Glenn even requested to try uglier, dirtier looks, “but they wouldn’t allow it, so there was nothing I could do.”
Then there was Mayiduo… “I wanted to be the movie’s ‘visual’ but the director didn’t allow!” quipped the content creator.
Kong Tao, which revolves around black magic, also depicts the possibility of getting bewitched by way of taking photos with other people.
For celebs like Glenn, who has fans asking for photos all the time, has he since become more wary of such requests?
“Such situations are hard to avoid. So for things I can’t control, I don’t dwell on them, I just focus on doing my best,” he said.
