Martha Plimpton has opened up about a late diagnosis that made her feel “finally free.”
During the premiere of her new HBO miniseries Task, the Hollywood actress, 54, revealed she was diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) four years ago.
Martha, who was infamously a part of The Goonies cast, shared, “I’m actually a late diagnosis ADHD, like millions of others.”
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, ADHD is a developmental disorder characterized by an ongoing pattern of inattention, hyperactivity and/or impulsivity. It can “cause problems in daily life” and “make it hard to get things done.”
While speaking to Page Six, she admitted, “It was actually a huge relief to be diagnosed.”
“Nope. I don’t watch it,” she confessed. “I’ve seen it once, and that’s good. I don’t know what to tell you.”
The film’s sequel is currently in development with director Steven Spielberg and screenwriter Chris Columbus. The original cast has expressed interest in appearing in the new movie, however, Martha believes it won’t make a difference in the film’s success.
“I think [fans are] going to see The Goonies 2, whether we’re in it or not. I think that’s pretty obvious. At least, I hope [they] will,” she said.
Since starring in the hit film, she has gone on to star in several other hit films like Parenthood, Frozen 2 and The River Rat.
Not only has she continued to grace the big screen, she has also made her mark in television, starring in Raising Hope, the series that awarded her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Martha also appeared on stage in the Broadway production of Top Girls and Pal Joey.
