Here are the famous names, including Jake Quickenden and Ashley Cain, who will join the start line at this September’s Great North Run

Around 60,000 runners are set to line up on the Newcastle start line on September 7 to take part in the world-famous half-marathon – and among them will be some very famous faces including a sporting icon.
Organisers of the AJ Bell Great North Run have just announced the celebrities who will be taking part this year – in the 44th event – and they include Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes. The runner who won gold medals for both the 800 metres and 1,500 metres at the 2004 summer Olympics in Athens will be adding some celebrity sparkle to the event which has a history of attracting big names.
It’s already been announced that Olympian and Great Run ambassador Eilish McColgan also will be in action in a bid to to win the women’s elite race for the first time. Among the newly-revealed celebrities set to run the 13.1-mile route across the Tyne Bridge to South Shields are sportsmen and reality TV stars: boxer Tommy Fury and former footballers Ashley Cain and singer Jake Quickenden.
Local entrepreneur and Dragons Den investor Sara Davies will be taking part once again, having first signed up to the run in 2023, as previously reported, in aid of the NHS. More sports and TV names include former football and sports commentator Danny Mills; ex-boxer Rendall Munro; Emmerdale actress Harriett Bibby and Neil Grainger of Middlesbrough-set series Smoggie Queens.
There also will be four stars of BBC’s The Traitors – following in the wake of the previous series’ Diane and Ross Carson who took part last year – alongside Shona Manderson, of Channel 4’s Married At First Sight, and Zara Holland of ITV2’s Love Island. The full celebrity line-up is below.
More than 200,000 spectators are expected to line the route of September’s run which is expected to raise around £25m for charity and will be broadcast live as usual on BBC1. For more information about the Great North Run see here.
