An expert has addressed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s potential royal reconciliation. It comes after recent reports suggest the couple will be back in Britain in the summer ahead of the Invictus Games in 2027. It will be the first time in four years Meghan, 44, has been seen in the UK.
King Charles III has hosted just two short meetings with his youngest son in recent years and is not believed to have seen his grandchildren, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, since the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. But a significant olive branch could see Harry and Charles on stage together in Birmingham when the Games return to these shores in July 2027 for the first time in 13 years
Olivia Bennett, Digital PR Director at SEO and PR agency Go Up, has weighed in on a royal reunion, suggesting the couple will need to prove the move is “genuine” and not “PR-engineered”, adding the British public can spot “perceived insincerity”.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Olivia explained, “Reconciliation would be an incredibly valuable symbol.
“Image recovery often hinges on gestures rather than statements, and a united front with the Royal Family would carry enormous weight both in the UK and in the US.
“It would also help soften the narrative that the couple are isolated or adversarial.”
It has been reported the King and the Duke of Sussex are keen to reconcile, and achieving this at next summer’s Games would be “appropriate” given Charles’s position as Head of the Armed Forces.
“However, reconciliation only works if it appears genuine,” Olivia remarked. “If it looks transactional, strategic or purely reputational, it won’t land.”
She concluded: “A reconciliation moment has to feel relational rather than PR-engineered. The British public, in particular, is extremely sensitive to perceived insincerity.”
The Duke of Sussex spent 54 minutes having a cup of tea with King Charles at Clarence House in London last year as part of “rebuilding their father-and-son relationship”.
When they met in February 2024 after the monarch was diagnosed with cancer, Harry’s audience was limited to just over 15 minutes.
