TV actor Taylor Tuli Wily, best known for his role in Hawaii Five-0, reportedly suffered a horrific fall just months before his death at the age of 56 in June 2024.
A lawsuit filed on September 26, 2025 alleges that Wily sustained severe head injuries from a wheelchair accident that occurred on October 3, 2023, which ultimately led to his death.
According to court documents cited by The Sun, the incident happened when Wily was being loaded into a transport van while in his wheelchair, and the ramp malfunctioned causing him to fall from a platform and hit his head on the pavement. Wily’s estate claims that he was unable to receive life-saving treatment for his injuries.
The estate is now seeking over $50,000 (£37,000) in damages and a jury trial, accusing GMTCare, a Nevada transportation company, of negligence in ensuring the lift’s safety prior to the accident, reports the Mirror.
This lawsuit comes more than a year after Wily’s manager told The Los Angeles Times that the actor died of natural causes.
In addition to his successful acting career spanning decades, Wily was also a sumo wrestler and UFC competitor, boasting an undefeated record in his first 14 matches before retiring from the sport in 1989.
Wily made his first and only UFC appearance in November 1993, where he was defeated by Gerard Gordeau. He was knocked out within the first 30 seconds.
A flying kick from Gordeau resulted in three of Wily’s teeth being dislodged. Following this, he shifted his focus to his acting career.
Wily had roles in TV series such as Marker and One West Waikiki. However, he is best known for his portrayal of Kamekona in Hawaii Five-0.
Between 2010 and 2020, Wily appeared in 171 episodes of the show. His last acting role before his passing was in Magnum P.I. from 2018 to 2020, where he reprised his role as Kamekona. Peter Lenkov, a former runner for Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P. I., led the tributes following Wily’s death.
In an Instagram post, he wrote: “You charmed me into making you a regular… on the show… and in my life. You were family. And I will miss you every day, brother.”
Fans of Wily echoed these sentiments in their comments under the post, noting that Wily’s character was a key part of the show.
