It is Prince Andrew Crescent in Rubery that was built as part of the themed estate of the royal family. Residents have reportedly now stated that the issue of renaming the road has resurfaced after King Charles’s brother lost his royal patronages, military titles, and public role. However, Birmingham Street remains untouched.
Meanwhile, Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland confirmed the renaming of Prince Andrew Way due to community and reputation. However, one resident of Prince Andrew Crescent stated, “Once you’ve lived with a street name for years, it becomes part of how you think about your home.” The individual further added, “Even if it were officially changed, it would always be Prince Andrew Crescent to me.” The resident continued, “There are also very real practical worries, like mail delivery and official records.”
The individual believes “most people here would rather avoid that disruption and leave things as they are.” Other residents reportedly agreed, with one local saying, “I don’t see it as my place to sit in judgment of Andrew. That is something for God, not for neighbors on a quiet street.” the local continued, “I have lived here since the houses were first built, and from my perspective, there is no real purpose in changing the name now.”
The person further explained, “Much of the fuss has been driven by newspaper headlines rather than anything that affects daily life here.” Another resident shared, “Honestly, it doesn’t bother us at all.” The local added that they “really don’t want the inconvenience that would come with changing it.” However, one resident supported the name change as they “wouldn’t feel comfortable living on a road with that association.”
