Beloved country singer and sitcom actress Reba McEntire, 70, is opening up about being a coach on the upcoming 28th season of the hit NBC competition series, The Voice, which begins airing on September 22.
Us Weekly reported that McEntire and the show’s other coaches, Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg, and Michael Bublé, discussed their dynamic in a pre-season clip. McEntire shared how she befriended each of her co-stars.
“I met [Snoop] on a plane. We were coming back from Africa or Amsterdam. We met, took a picture together. I met [Bublé] at Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix and then being a mentor on The Voice, I met [Horan] and we hit it off,” said McEntire during the clip, which was in promotion of The Voice Season 28.
Horan, who was famously a member of One Direction, said he was happy to co-star with McEntire, who became a coach during Season 24. Horan was a coach in the show’s 23rd and 24th seasons.
“I was so happy when you were coming on season 24 because at that point, I don’t think you had signed up to do it. You were just coming on to mentor and then Blake [Shelton] left and thank God you came. It was so fun,” said Horan to McEntire.
Snoop Dogg also said he immediately felt connected to his Season 28 co-stars.
“I think it was the first moment for me. I’m one of those kinds of guys where the spirit has to connect instantly. As soon as I walked through the room, as soon as we sat down next to each other, you could feel it. It’s in the air,” said the rapper.
Reba McEntire Revealed She Didn’t Want to Be a Coach on ‘The Voice’
After joining The Voice as a coach for the show’s 24th season, McEntire remained in the role for Season 25 and Season 26.
During a May 2025 interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, McEntire said she wasn’t interested in being a coach for The Voice when it premiered in 2011. According to the singer, she originally turned down the position because she didn’t want to be a source of negativity.
“I was truly dreading it at first because I don’t want to tell anybody that they suck. I passed on it years ago when it came over from Holland. And I said, ‘I can’t tell somebody don’t give up your day job,'” said McEntire during the interview.
She then said she believes she and her fellow Season 28 coaches are encouraging.
“Everyone who is coming back, which is myself, Snoop, Michael, Niall, we’re nice people. We encourage. We lift up,” said the Reba star.
