Americas sweetheart, Sydney Sweeney, recently shut down all jeans ad talk in an interview with Vanity Fair ahead of the Toronto International Film festival (TIFF). There have been extensive heated online discussions over Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Jeans ad. She stressed that she was at the festival for one reason only — to promote her upcoming movie, “Christy” — and had no intention of adding fuel to unnecessary fires.

Sydney Sweeney refuses to address more jeans ad questions

In a recent interview, when the Euphoria star was asked about her American Eagle jeans Ad, she drew a polite, but clear boundary, saying, “I’m here to support my movie and the people who worked on it. I am not here to talk about jeans”.

Her new movie, Christy, is a moving biopic about Christy Martin, a pioneering boxer in the 90’s who broke several barriers in her lifetime. Around the same time, she was overcoming personal struggles, too. In the movie, Sweeney plays Martin, the ‘coal miner’s daughter’ from a small town in West Virginia. The storyline sees Martin rise to fame by becoming one of the most celebrated female fighters in history.

Sweeney shared that she went to great lengths to make her portrayal of Christy impeccable. Evidently, she trained for months, put on more than 30 pounds of muscle, and endured real injuries. No stunt doubles or camera tricks were used. She shared, “We went full force, because we wanted the audience to feel the truth of the story.” The movie is directed by David Michod, also known for “The king and The Rover”.

For the “Anyone But You” star, TIFF isn’t about standing up for a fashion campaign. Rather, it’s about honoring the women whose stories the world needs to acknowledge. Her performance and commitment to the upcoming movie is a clear indication of that. To put it another way — she is about to redefine her career — somewhere beyond viral debates and ads about jeans.
