A driver turned himself in to authorities after a hit-and-run injured a teenager at a crowded appearance of YouTuber and Twitch streamer IShowSpeed in Idaho Monday evening, police said.
The Nampa Police Department said it was made aware that YouTube and Twitch personality IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., was on his way to Columbia High School “with his security detail and follow vehicles” at around 6 p.m. Monday.
A large crowd gathered outside the school for the event, but police said there were “no issues” with Watkins’ presence until his departure, when “many people were walking and running in the roadway” on Happy Valley Road. That’s when a 14-year-old boy was struck by a pickup truck that did not stop and left the area.
Witnesses notified officers who were already at the event, and a 911 call about the boy’s injury brought Nampa Fire and Canyon County Paramedics to the scene. The boy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, and was later released.
Police said the truck was “unrelated” to the event and was not a part of Watkins’ entourage.
At around 7:30 p.m., the driver of the truck, 20-year-old Donald Allen Haggin II, called police to report the incident. Police said that after further investigation, and “due to the extent of the victims injuries,” Haggin was asked to come to the police station. Haggin met with officers and was ultimately arrested on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an injury accident.
