The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, features the two most nominated movies in history. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners broke the previous record with 16 nominations, including Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, and three acting awards. It is looking to win the night against One Battle After Another from Paul Thomas Anderson. While Sinners broke the record for individual nominations, One Battle After Another tied the previous record with 14 total nominations, including Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and four acting awards. Also in contention for Best Picture are Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams.

It was a massive year for animated movies with Zootopia 2 becoming the highest-grossing animated movie of all-time. Netflix’s smash hit KPop Demon Hunters will look to be the streamer’s first Best Animated Feature winner. Also nominated are Arco, Elio, and Little Amelie or the Character of Rain.
International Feature has some of the best movies of 2025 nominated, including The Secret Agent and Sentimental Value. France’s It Was Just an Accident, Spain’s Sirat, and Tunisia’s The Voice of Hind Rajab are also nominated.
Some of the biggest actors today are looking for their first Academy Award. Of the 20 nominations, 14 have never heard their name called. Those include Timothee Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, Wagnor Moura, Etha Hawke, Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Renate Reinsve, Jacob Elordi, Delroy Lindo, Stellan Skarsgard, Elle Fanning, Amy Madigan, Teyana Taylor, Wunmi Mosaku, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.
