I Love LA showrunner and actress Rachel Sennott has shared how Ayo Edebiri was cast in the show. Edebiri, known for her role as Sydney Adamu in The Bear, makes an unexpected appearance in Episode 2 of the new comedy series.

During an interview with Deadline, Rachel Sennott and her co-writer Emma Barrie shared how they cast the Emmy-winning actress in Episode 2 of I Love LA.
“I always want my friends in stuff so that I can hang out with them,” Sennott shared. “I’m like, ‘If you come shoot for two days, then we can have dinner,’ because she’s so busy all the time. I just love her. She’s so talented, so funny, so skilled as an actress, too,” she added.
Sennott had previously worked with Edebiri on the 2023 teen comedy, Bottoms. This made it easy for her to work with Edebiri again and develop the character. “[I] basically got on the phone and jammed with her and just sort of pitched the idea… to make this ridiculous, fun character together,” the 30-year-old actress explained.
Furthermore, they also revealed that it was Edebiri’s idea to make the character British.
“It’s unlike anything she’s done in a while. So absurd. And she was like, ‘I love it. Can I be British?” Barrie recalled. Sennott then added, “We were like, ‘If you want to be British, you can be British.’”
Edebiri’s character, British popstar Mimi Rush, appears in Episode 2, titled “Roger & Munchy.” In the episode, Mimi obsesses over getting Zendaya to play the role of her mother in her new music video. But when the Challengers actress declines, Mimi orders her team to find some dirt on Zendaya to use against her.
I Love LA is an HBO comedy series that centers on a group of close friends who reunite after a long time as they navigate their lives’ ups and downs together. Rachel Sennott also leads the cast, alongside Odessa A’zion, True Whitaker, Jordan Firstman, and Josh Hutcherson in the prominent roles.
