TLC didn’t just “Creep” into a show where they heard the singer performing one of their songs, they surprised the entire room and artist.
After performing at Evolution Festival in Forest Park on Sunday, Sept. 28, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins surprised St. Louis-based singer, Tish Period, when they heard her performing “Waterfalls” at a local venue.
A viral video on Period’s Instagram showed Thomas and Watkins running from their van and into the venue, surprising Period, her band and the audience.
“We’d just performed, and we were in the van coming here and were like, ‘Wait a minute, we hear our song,’” Thomas said in the video. “So, we just pulled over and felt like crashing with you guys.”
Period is then seen covering her face and crying as she is overcome with emotions by TLC’s presence. In another clip, Period thanked the group for “bringing some of the best music we’re still singing right now.”
“This means the world to me,” she continued. “Thank you so much for giving us that good music…we will never forget it.”
Period then delivered her rendition of “Waterfalls,” which appeared to have impressed the Grammy-winning singers.
TLC — made up of Thomas, Watkins and late member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes — is one of the best-selling American girl groups of all time. Debuting in 1992, TLC notched nine top 10 hits in the ‘90s including “Creep,” ”Waterfalls,” “No Scrubs” and ”Unpretty.” The group has also earned four multi-platinum albums, including the 12-times platinum “CrazySexyCool.” Lopes was killed in a 2002 car crash at 30.
Thomas and Watkins have continued to perform as a duo. They most recently teamed up with Shaggy for the Hot Summer Nights Tour in 2023.
