Legendary singer Neil Diamond announced back in 2018 that he was battling Parkinson’s disease, and in the years that have passed since he has lived mostly out of the spotlight.

But that changed for a brief and beautiful moment recently when he was honored with the Inspirational Lifetime Achievement Award at the 39th Annual Carousel Ball. The “Sweet Caroline” singer didn’t just show up to get the award, he stunned fans by performing his iconic song alongside Broadway star Nick Fradiani, according to Men’s Journal.

“I’ve been through it all now, and I’m still coming back for more,” Diamond said while accepting the award.

“I remember being a 15 year old in Brooklyn and dreaming of a day like this,” he added. “My sincere thanks to Barbara and Dana (Davis) for including me in this beautiful evening. I’m proud to be a champion for this cause and grateful to be part of a night that brings hope to so many. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.”

Diamond was given the award for his continued service to the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes as well as what he has done for type 1 diabetes care and research.

Men’s Journal noted that Diamond was diagnosed with diabetes prior to his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

The award was nice, but the performance moved folks, and video shared to TikTok drew plenty of emotional responses.

“His voice is still amazing!” one person replied. “What a blessing he is!”

“What a treasure he is!” another wrote.

“My heart is exploding” another wrote.

“A musical treasure,” another replied. “Still sharing his talent. Thank you!”
