Criminally underrated actor Hamish Linklater is starting to make waves again thanks to his role as Dean Cipher in Gen V. Though he should be a familiar face to anybody who watches a lot of movies, he still hasn’t become a big star.
While he’s doing great work in Gen V, there’s another series he did that should’ve made him a much bigger star.
Midnight Mass Proved Linklater is a Powerhouse
Netflix has a spotty track record when it comes to the quality of their original projects, but one of the best things they’ve ever produced is Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass. The series is about a small island community that starts to experience miraculous and terrifying events after a young and charismatic priest arrives.

That priest is played by Linklater, who is just a powerhouse in the role. He’s able to hit so many beats in this role. Midnight Mass simply doesn’t work without his performance.
It’s a very complex role that requires him to be sympathetic, terrifying and charming. It’s shocking that his role in Midnight Mass didn’t make him one of the biggest stars in the world.
With spooky season here, it’s the perfect time to revisit Midnight Mass or finally watch it for the first time.
