IMDb Reveals the Most Popular Titles and Stars in January: “Stranger Things” Still Rules, ‘The Housemaid’ Cleans Up, and Everyone Loves Catherine O’Hara

For the third month in a row, “Stranger Things” was the #1 most visited title on IMDb, and it wasn’t even close. Following the New Year’s Eve drop of the series finale, the Netflix phenomenon had more than twice the page views of the second place title, the Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal crime series “His & Hers” (also from Netflix).

Streamers dominated the top 10, with four titles each from Netflix and HBO Max ranking. “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” (the latest “Game of Thrones” spin-off) was HBO Max’s top title, followed by “The Pitt” (in its Season 2 premiere), and “Heated Rivalry” (still gaining speed since its November launch).

With a lean January studio slate, The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, was the only theatrical release to chart in the top 10. Lionsgate’s psychological thriller has earned an impressive $310 million on a $35 million production budget, and a sequel is already in development with Sweeney and director Paul Feig returning.

As Hollywood mourned the loss of comedy legend Catherine O’Hara, IMDb became an essential destination for fans who wanted to dive into her filmography, including classics like Home Alone, Best in Show, “Schitt’s Creek,” and Beetlejuice. Despite passing away at the end of the month on January 30, O’Hara was still the most viewed name on IMDb for the month, a testament to how much she meant to the entertainment world.

Also among the top 10 were an assortment of Oscar contenders (Teyana Taylor, Jessie Buckley, Leonardo DiCaprio), Netflix stars (Millie Bobby Brown and Jamie Campbell Bower from “Stranger Things,” Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson from “His & Hers”), and of course, Sydney Sweeney. But one Netflix star was far ahead of the pack when it came to IMDb page views: Mia McKenna-Bruce. As amateur sleuth Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, McKenna-Bruce charmed viewers in “Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials,” building on the buzz from her breakout role in How to Have Sex.
