Tom Cruise Breaks Down His ‘Mission: Impossible’ Subterranean Jeep Chase in New Behind-the-Scenes Clip (Exclusive) originally appeared on Parade.
If you saw Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning earlier this summer, then yes, Tom Cruise really did drive a jeep through those mines. Unlike with many big blockbuster movies, Cruise and his band of Mission: Impossible stunts people pride themselves on foregoing green screens and VFX for good ole’ fashioned stunts.
In a sneak peek of the Through The Mine behind-the-scenes featurette, which will be available in full as a part of the film’s digital release on Aug. 19, Cruise along with director Christopher McQuarrie, break down just what it took to create the car chase.
Shot on location in Middleton Mine in the UK, the scene involved tricky terrain and cramped spaces in which to shoot an intense car chase mid-shootout. Moreover, McQuarrie wanted filmgoers to get the full Tom Cruise effect and so they opted for a Jeep as his potential getaway car, which he details in the clip.
Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Thames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny and Angela Bassett along with Cruise and opened in theaters on May 23, 2025. It’s the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film franchise which launched with Mission: Impossible in 1996.
Fans who purchase the film on digital will have access to not only the Through The Mine featurette, but also behind-the-scenes interviews detailing the biplane stunts, the underwater sequence, shooting in the Arctic, and crafting the film’s score.
The digital release also includes deleted footage, commentary from McQuarrie and Cruise, promo spots, still galleries and the isolated score track.
