Nicole Kidman has been a part of several high-profile Hollywood power couples. She was married once before to Tom Cruise, and now she’s going through a divorce with country singer Keith Urban.
Many of us have forgotten about some of the other bombshell relationships she has been one half of.
But following the recent split between her and husband of 19 years, it’s time to take a walk down memory lane to revisit the celebrity she was briefly engaged to in the early aughts, who was singer and Hunger Games star Lenny Kravitz.
The Babygirl actress has stayed connected to the Kravitz family throughout the years. Nicole nearly became the step-mom of her Big Little Lies costar Zoë Kravitz.

How did Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz meet
Nicole reportedly met the rock musician in 2002, according to People. Coincidentally, Nicole was subletting Lenny’s Manhattan apartment while her West Village apartment was being renovated.
He must have been a great landlord because during that time, they connected and fell for each other. They started dating at some point in 2003.
They kept this relationship under wraps and denied reports that they were an item. However, they were spotted at high-profile events together, such as magician David Copperfield’s birthday party and Gregory Hines’ tribute at the Apollo theater.
“They’re very close,” Nicole’s spokeswoman Leslee Dart said at the time to People. “He’s very important to her. Beyond that, I don’t know.”

The couple’s engagement period
In late 2003, US Weekly broke the news that Lenny popped the question to Nicole, which was 14 years before Nicole actually confirmed that this was all true.
At the time, Nicole and Lenny were both single working parents living in Manhattan and were both family oriented. Ultimately, the wedding never materialized.
The couple split in December of 2003 after spending Thanksgiving together at Lenny’s Miami home, according to People.
“I didn’t really want a relationship,” Nicole told Vanity Fair in 2007 without confirming it was Kravitz she was engaged to. “I just wanted my kids to have me, and I didn’t feel comfortable having some person in that small hubbub. And then I got engaged to somebody … but it just wasn’t right. I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready.”
What have Nicole and Lenny said about each other over the years?
Nicole has stayed in contact with the Kravitz family to a certain extent over the years, as she has worked with Lenny’s daughter Zoë on TV projects.
“Well, I knew Zoë because I was engaged to her father. It’s all in the family! I love Lenny; he’s a great guy,” Nicole told Vanity Fair.
“[Nicole] can be quiet and shy, which is interesting because the beast of an actress that she is, is so loud and clear. She’s so good that sometimes it was distracting. After every take I wanted to just stop and say, ‘Wow,’” Zoë stated in the interview.
While we don’t know the reasons for why the couple split, with what little they have said about each other, it has all been positive.
In an interview with Mr Porter’s The Journal, Lenny spoke highly of Nicole, saying, “Nicole is amazing.”
Continuing, he added, “Zoë and she hadn’t spent time together since she was younger, since Nicole and I were together, so that was great.”
Kidman fondly talked about her relationship with her almost-step-daughter in an interview with Elle in 2020, following the pair working together on the popular HBO series Big Little Lies.
“I feel protective, like a big sister, toward her,” she said, “She is carving her own path with confidence and grace. She’s having a big moment now, but it’s only going to get bigger. She’s a triple threat because she can dance, sing and act. She is deeply feminine, and she always smells so good!”
