A new live music series is about to make its debut in Cochrane this weekend. Found Sounds, the first of a five-part series, opens Saturday night at Found Books and Shop with Calgary singer-songwriter Eric John.
John will perform tracks from his latest album A Punch of Colour, while also taking part in a conversational-style performance where he’ll share the stories and inspirations behind his songs.
“We’re kind of going for something in between the Tiny Desk vibe and MTV Unplugged,” said Seth Anderson, President of Blue Willow Entertainment, which is producing the series. “We want to give people an opportunity to get to know the artist and the inspiration for creating their work.”
The intimate concert will also feature local artist Devin Foster as the opener.
For Blue Willow’s Mackenzie Walsh, who lives in Bragg Creek, the venue itself adds to the magic. “It’s such a cool space,” said Walsh, Director of Media and Artist Relations.
“You know it as a bookstore, but when Julia Lutchman [the owner] transforms the back room, it feels like this tiny desk experience. It’s an intimate listening room where the music really connects.”
The Found Sounds series will continue in the coming months, highlighting singer-songwriters from Calgary and the surrounding area. Walsh confirmed that at least one of the upcoming headliners will be a well-known Cochrane artist.
“We’ve worked with hundreds of artists in the Calgary area, and the local scene is always growing,” said Anderson, who lives in Redwood Meadows. “Every time we think we’ve met everyone, 10 more artists pop up. That’s what makes projects like this so exciting.”
Tickets for Saturday’s show are available through Show Pass or on the Found Books website, with some likely available at the door.
