When Taylor Swift first shared her promotion schedule for The Life of a Showgirl, some fans theorized she could drop Reputation vault tracks during October 4’s mysterious “Standby” event. Instead, that night she released limited-edition albums featuring acoustic versions of some Showgirl tracks.
The singer has heard the Reputation theories though, and she gave a real update on when the vault tracks—songs she wrote during the album’s creation process that didn’t make its final cut—are being released.
“There’s nothing coming from Reputation anytime soon,” she said during her interview on The Roula & Ryan Show With Eric.
She explained she would like fans to focus on this era:
We just had a new album come out, and I am so in that moment. And I think that this moment is a pretty fantastic one. We’ve got release parties in movie theaters; we’ve got people getting together; we’ve got people doing club night celebrations of this album being out, and I’m so proud of it.
I’ve never felt this way on a release week where I’m like, “This is just pure joy and fun.” I’ve always had an element of extreme stress going into a release week like this, where you just feel like, “Oh my God, I need to throw my phone in a drawer, and I need to just like—” But that’s not what this feels like because the album is so fun, and it’s so funny, and it matches my life and where I’m at completely. So what I would invite my fans to do is just be here with me. Be here with me on this album because this album is fantastic, and we’re all having so much fun.
She added that she loves her fans’ passion and excitement as they theorize what projects are coming next. “Reputation has pleasantly surprised me over the years,” she noted. “Because when that record came out, I was like, ‘I love this album so much.’ And when it came out…it just got thrown into a fire.” Swift said it was initially “blown to bits.”
“And then you see it over the years: People have now decided that it’s their favorite of my albums, which is like the coolest feeling in the world,” she continued. “Again, go back, trust your gut, what you feel, right? And so now that people are like, ‘Where are the vault tracks, where are the vault tracks?’ it’s pretty exciting because that always was the album where I was like, ‘That was my favorite that I felt like didn’t really get a fair swing of it.’ And so now that they’re like, ‘We love that album, we want more of it,’ it’s lovely, it’s wonderful.”
And it will have its moment in the future, but not now, Swift concluded.
The singer is almost finished her The Life of a Showgirl promotion schedule. She is set to appear as Seth Meyers’s only guest on Late Night With Seth Meyers this evening for her last publicly announced event.
