Appearing to refer to her own illness, she added: “For the children, my parents alongside. You go through it with us.”
The Princess saw the couple’s baby and leaned in to say: “Who’s this! I saw you earlier, didn’t I! Isn’t mummy brave?”
Stepping back to give Mrs Lorente her moment, the Princess watched her pause before ringing the bell, appearing to take in the milestone moment.
“This is your day,” she said. “You can do it.”
The Princess was in Manchester to visit The Christie’s cancer centre. Kensington Palace said she hoped to highlight the “healing power of holistic care, alongside clinical care, during and beyond cancer treatment”.
