Tim Curry has appeared in nearly 250 projects since his debut in the ‘70s. However, the veteran actor has one particular movie that he remembers vividly. He admitted that he’d “love to work” on that franchise again.
Tim Curry names his favorite movie in career spanning over 50 years
Of all the memorable characters that Tim Curry has portrayed in over 50 years, he admitted that his role as the pirate Long John Silver from the 1996 movie Muppet Treasure Island is the one he treasures the most.
“I would love to work with the Muppets again,” Curry told The Guardian during an interview about his new memoir, Vagabond.
The Pennywise actor recalled what the best part of making that movie was. “The great thing is that the Muppeteers themselves,” he shared. “If they have their puppet on their hand, they only talk to you as the character. I love that,” the actor explained.
The 79-year-old actor later shared an anecdote, admitting to his attempt at sneaking a cheeky line in the movie. “I ad-libbed a line, because me and Piggy were supposed to have had some kind of affair long ago,” Curry recalled. “I said, ‘Well, I’ll tell you, Jim, once you’ve had pork, you never go back!’”
However, to Tim Curry’s disappointment, the line never made it to the final cut. Nonetheless, his role as the pirate is extremely memorable, which fans still regard as one of his best movie performances.
Muppet Treasure Island is a musical adventure comedy starring the Muppets alongside live-action actors. It is adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 classic novel, Treasure Island. The story follows young orphan Jim Hawkins, who acquires a treasure map and sets out to find a hidden pirate treasure, accompanied by his Muppet friends Gonzo and Rizzo.
Curry’s Long John Silver is a conniving yet charming pirate who works on Jim’s ship, the Hispaniola, as a cook. Although he plans to take over the ship and take the treasure, he forms a complicated relationship with the young boy, mentoring him through their journey.
Tim Curry is also widely known for his roles as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and as the haunting Pennywise in Stephen King’s mini-series, IT.
