After James Gunn‘s Superman highlighted Lex Luthor‘s extensive use of pocket universes to further his nefarious plans, many have questioned if the technology used by the billionaire supervillain has any connection to the Quantum Unfolding Chamber shown in Peacemaker. In a recent discussion, Gunn addressed this burning fan query while also shedding light on the possible connection between Luthor and Peacemaker’s father.
James Gunn on where Auggie Smith’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber came from
In the latest episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with James Gunn, the DC Studios co-CEO answered whether Peacemaker’s dad had collaborated with “Lex Luthor to develop the Quantum Unfolding Chamber technology.”
Trying his best not to spoil anything prematurely, Gunn initially fumbled with what they had already revealed in the ongoing Peacemaker Season 2. After getting a hold of himself, the director disclosed that “next episode we’ll learn where he got the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, at the beginning of episode four.”
The Quantum Unfolding Chamber is basically an extradimensional pocket universe that Auggie Smith, Peacemaker’s father, created to store high-tech weapons, his son’s collection of helmets, and more.
Interestingly, Lex Luthor used a similar technology in Superman to hold prisoners as well as to conduct various operations. While it remains uncertain if Auggie Smith and Luthor joined forces at one stage to create such multiversal gateways, more information on the subject should come out in the upcoming Episode 4 of Peacemaker Season 2.
Gunn has already confirmed that the Quantum Unfolding Chamber will play a significant role in the future of the DCU. In an earlier episode of the official Peacemaker podcast, the Guardians of the Galaxy director noted, “The QUC becomes an incredibly important thing in the DCU throughout the two seasons of Peacemaker and beyond that.”
So far, the follow-up edition of the John Cena-led series has aired three chapters of its eight-episode roster, with each episode scheduled to premiere every other Thursday at 9 p.m. ET or 6 p.m. PT on Max (formerly Max).
