Jenna Bush Hager doesn’t necessarily want her daughters, Mila, 12, and Poppy, 10, to follow in her footsteps.
The 43-year-old Today with Jenna & Friends co-host was discussing National Daughters Day on the Thursday, Sept. 25 episode of her show alongside guest co-host Sheinelle Jones, when Jones began talking about her own 13-year-old daughter, Clara.
“I actually hope — and I’m just gonna say it — I actually hope my daughter, her teenage years — she just turned 13 a month ago — I hope she’s like me, like I was. I was a great teenager,” Jones said, before laughing and turning to Bush Hager. “Oh wait, that tees you up perfectly.”
With a deadpan expression, Bush Hager replied, “Yeah, I hope my daughters are NOT like me.”

Jones later noted that she didn’t “sneak out” or do anything out of line as the daughter of former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush just gave her a look.
“I just hope that she’s like me,” Jones said of Clara. “If I have a little Jenna, I wouldn’t even know how to parent that.”
“My parents didn’t either,” Bush Hager quipped.
“But shoutout to your mom because you turned out alright,” Jones assured her.
“We turned out just fine,” Bush Hager said, referencing her twin sister Barbara Bush Pierce.

Things got even more comical later in Thursday’s episode when Jones and Bush Hager each received very different video messages from their respective daughters in honor of National Daughters Day.
While Jones’ daughter, Clara, sent her a heartfelt message, Bush Hager’s girls, Mila and Poppy, looked less enthusiastic, making their mom burst out laughing.

“I get home and I hear screaming, like yelling, like, ‘Come on! Do it now!’ And they were doing the video,” Bush Hager said, explaining why she knew about the surprise in advance. “And Mila walks in and she goes, ‘Mom, I just have to tell you something. I don’t wanna do this anymore.’“
When Bush Hager attempted to get some clarity, things got even funnier.
“She’s like, ‘Every time y’all have some stupid holiday, your producers are like, ‘Hey!’ and then I have to put on mascara because I’m in 7th grade and I don’t wanna look bad on TV, okay?’ ” the mom of three, who is also mom to son Hal Hager, 6, recalled. “And I’m like, ‘Oh, you don’t have to do it.’ And she’s like, ‘I’ll do it this one time, but this is my last time.’ It did look like she needed a ransom.”
Bush Hager then assured her older daughter, “Mila, you’re retired, you don’t have to do it anymore.”
