Jennie Garth is sharing the unique tactic that she employed to get over her stage fright while competing on Dancing With the Stars.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress, 54, revealed that she underwent hypnosis in order to stop herself from peeing her pants whenever she and pro partner Derek Hough were called to the ballroom to perform.
“I think that that show… really showed me how strong I was,” Garth explained on a recent episode of the Pod Meets Worldpodcast. “I was honestly, no disrespect, but I was so happy when I got kicked off because I did not like that kind of stress and the spotlight.”

Garth and Hough competed in season 5 of the ABC dancing series in 2007. The pair made it all the way to the semi-finals and ultimately placed fourth in the competition, with Derek’s sister Julianne Hough and racing driver Hélio Castroneves taking home the Mirrorball trophy.
Despite her success, Garth admitted that she found competing on Dancing With the Stars to be “really hard” for her both physically and emotionally.
“I had to go get hypnotized to, like, not pee my pants when they said, ‘And dancing the waltz! Jennie Garth and her partner, Derek Hough!’” she said. “Gives me PTSD bumps right now just thinking about it.”
Garth continued, “I’m not the person that’s like, ‘Hey, look at me, everybody!’ Like, I don’t love that.”
Although Garth did manage to find a silver lining to the experience, telling hosts Danielle Fishel (who recently competed on DWTS herself), Rider Strong, and Will Friedle that she “did stay in really good shape” while on the show.

Earlier in their conversation, Garth expressed her amazement that Dancing With the Stars is “still on” to this day, with its 35th season set to premiere this fall. A spinoff hosted by Robert Irwin, titledDancing With the Stars: the Next Pro, is also cha-cha-ing onto television screens this July.
“I remember season 1 when it came on they asked me to do it on season 1, and I was like, ‘ooh, no, that’s not… nobody knows how this is gonna go over,” Garth recalled. She added, “I mean, it was so, I love watching it but that’s a long time that show’s been on!”
She continued, “But I guess it’s the glitz, it’s the sequins, it’s the personal journey, the challenge that the contestants go through, and having done it, it is hard.”
Last year, Garth made headlines when she revealed that she’s completely forgotten how to dance in the decades since her season aired.
“I don’t [know how to] any more,” Garth told Chelsea Handler at the time. “Once you do it, if you don’t do it more, you lose it, so I’ve lost it.”
