Jennifer Lopez Calls It ‘Crazy’ She Was Never Offered Musical Role

Jennifer Lopez has had a long film career, but there’s one type of movie she says she hasn’t yet gotten to lead — until now.

While at an interview for her new movie musical “Kiss of the Spider Woman” on Wednesday, Jenny from the Block was asked whether she’s ever been “close” to starring in a musical, given her career as a singer.

“You know, I have never been offered a musical, which is crazy,” Lopez revealed.

The “I’m Real” singer went on to recall a time that she auditioned for film director Alan Parker for a role in the musical film “Evita.”

“I’ve been practicing for weeks, and sing my heart out, and did my thing,” Lopez said. “And he goes, ‘You’re amazing. You know Madonna has the part, right?’”

“I said, ‘OK, bye-bye. Nice to meet you!’” she said with a laugh.

“This is a first time, and it couldn’t have been a better one for me, I don’t think,” she said of the timing on her part in the film, which comes out on Oct. 10.

“I was really glad to do it, [to] step into Chita Rivera’s shoes… and everyone who did this role before me,” she added, referring to the the star of the 1993 Broadway adaptation of “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”

Later on in the interview, Lopez described the role as “living her childhood dreams.” The film received standing ovations after it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and early reviews said Lopez “dazzled” and that it was “the role she was born to play.”
