Even after going through a lot – and by a lot, we mean 38 bones broken – Jeremy Renner is really not done with Hawkeye. If anything, he is getting more than ready to slip back into the character of Clint Barton, the skilled archer who won over fans as part of the Avengers ensemble. Years later, he teamed up with his protégé, Kate Bishop, to face threats in the 2021 Disney+ series Hawkeye.
Speaking at Florida Supercon, Renner reflected on his prospect of returning to Marvel after much uncertainty regarding Hawkeye Season 2. He said, “I’ll always dance with Marvel. I’ll always dance with them for sure when appropriate, when it’s rocking. I’m happy to do season two of Hawkeye. I love that character. I think there’s so much for us to do.” (via PopVerse)
This update comes after his public admission of Marvel’s insulting salary offer, where he was offered half the salary he received for Season 1. “They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,” Renner said on High Performance.
According to Renner, the low salary offer came after his accident. In 2023, he survived a near-fatal snowplow accident that resulted in 38 broken bones.
“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry. Why did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season?”
While what will eventually happen remains to be seen, one thing is certain: neither Marvel nor Renner has completely shut the doors on the possibility of Hawkeyes’ revival.
Hawkeye Season 1 is available to stream on Disney+.
