Jim Ward – the voice actor best known for his voice work on Nickelodeon‘s The Fairly OddParents died on Wednesday December 10, at the age of 66. His wife Janice confirmed the news that he had passed away following complications from advanced Alzheimer’s. The beloved star was receiving treatment in Los Angeles at Silverado Beverly Place Memory Care at the time of his death. Tragically Jim died the same day as fellow Nickelodeon star Jeff Garcia, whose son announced his death at the age of 50 on Instagram.
Tributes flooded in from heartbroken fans as the news became public. Writing on Facebook one commented: “Jim Ward has sadly passed away. The voice of Doug Dimmadone, Chet Ubetcha, and many more great animated roles… this has not been an easy day for animation fans. RIP to a legend.” Another added: “Jim will be doing inpressions up in heaven, slightly inappropriate but the angels will be laughing their halos off. RIP.”
A third chimed in: “I have been thinking about him knowing this day would be coming. Godspeed Voice Deity Jim Ward!!! Keep an eye out for those brambles, they’re hard on the yamsacks…”
“Rest in peace Jim Ward, the actor known for voicing Jack Krauser in the original Resident Evil 4. A truly memorable performance from a talent who left a huge mark on one of the most iconic games of all time. R.I.P,” a fourth penned.
“I’m a grown man in real tears… It’s gonna hit even harder when I randomly quote ‘Doug Dimmadone of Dimmsdale Dimmadone’ tear,” a fifth shared.
Meanwhile a sixth gushed: “Jim Ward was a national treasure. He was uniquely eccentric in a wonderful way…Rest in Peace and keep them laughing.”
Jim was unable to work since 2021 when it was revealed he had developed symptoms of a precocious form of Alzheimer’s disease and contracted a severe case of COVID-19.
Prior to his illness he was an in demand and acclaimed voice actor and radio star. Amongst his abundance of work for Nickelodeon he famously voiced the characters Doug Dimmadome and Chet Ubetcha on the The Fairly OddParents.
Away from TV and radio work he also worked extensively voicing video games and had several roles in the Star Wars Universe including multiple parts in the companion game to The Phantom Menace.
From 2004 to 2017, he was the co-host of The Stephanie Miller Show, a syndicated talk radio programme which utilised a number of his impersonations of political figures and other celebrities and news makers.
