Country music star Jimmie Allen lost a lawsuit this week that was filed by a woman who claimed he sexually assaulted her in a Las Vegas hotel in 2022.
Allen has long claimed his innocence in the case.
However,People Magazine reported that Judge Aleta A. Trauger ruled in a Tennessee court on Monday in favor of a Jane Doe in her claims of assault, battery, invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress against Allen because “he ignored court-imposed deadlines and orders.”
“The defendants have failed to comply with case management discovery deadlines and even failed to comply with specific Orders of this court,” the judge wrote, according to People. “For these reasons, the plaintiff’s Motion for Sanctions against Defendants Jimmie Allen and Aadyn’s Dad Touring, Inc. is GRANTED.”
Allen was ordered to pay $6,000 to the woman’s lawyers for cancelling a mediation session, and the 40-year-old singer also reportedly failed to obtain new representation after an attorney left.
People said that women’s lawyer, Elizabeth Fegan, said they were “pleased with the Court’s decision to grant judgement for the Plaintiff in light of Jimmie Allen’s refusal to participate in the litigation process. WE look forward to proving up Plaintiff’s damages caused by Allen’s predatory acts.”
People said that Allen’s legal rep said the ruling was “purely procedural,” and blamed his previous counsel for “repeated failures to comply with discovery obligations and court orders.”
“This ruling was not based on the merits of the allegations,” Ted Anastasiou, who is now representing Allen, told People. “Mr. Allen has consistently and unequivocally maintained his innocence, and he firmly denies these accusations.”
Anastasiou said that earlier accusations were “brought on the same baseless grounds,” and that “this case is equally meritless.”
“We intend to take immediate action to set aside this judgment and to ensure that the matter is decided on facts and evidence, rather than procedural missteps,” he added. “Mr. Allen looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name in court.”
People reported the woman first filed the lawsuit in 2023, claiming that Allens secretly filmed an encounter with her and continued to “engage in sexual conduct with her after she revoked her previously given consent.”
Allen filed a countersuit in July 2023 and his lawyers claimed he received permission to film their encounter. She filed a motion to dismiss the countersuit in August of that year, per People, which was allowed.
Allen was also sued by his former manager for assault and sexual abuse, and they reached an agreement and her claims were dropped. Allen also denied wrongdoing in that incident.
