The actor wasn’t around when the incident happened, but reports suggest he has taken “all extra precautions” to prevent such occurrences from happening again.

Johnny Depp has made headlines for a tragic incident after his new rescue dog reportedly broke free during a walk and mauled two sheep to death near his rented mansion in East Sussex.

The actor’s Bullmastiff named Bourbon was reportedly out on a walk with its handler before slipping its leash and charging at a flock of sheep in a nearby grazing field, causing distress to the owner, Joe Ginger.

Depp wasn’t around but is understood to be unhappy that the incident happened and has taken action by hiring a professional dog trainer and implementing “all extra precautions” that’ll prevent it from happening again, per the Daily Mail.

Expressing his frustration with the attack, Mr. Ginger told the news outlet, “I take my work and my sheep very seriously; it is my business. It is a serious matter.”

The Actor Was ‘Really Upset’ About The Assault

Depp rents his luxurious countryside property for a whopping £12,000 [$16,000] per month and is said to relish the privacy it offers. He has largely been reclusive following his very public battle with ex Amber Heard and has been spotted out and about the nearby village.

An insider claimed that the actor was “really upset” when told about the incident, adding: “He keeps himself to himself and loves the area for how tranquil it is.”

“People there let him get on with his life,” they continued. “This is not the type of thing that he wanted to happen in his backyard.”

“A trainer has now been brought in and all the precautions have been set up to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” the source shared.

Johnny Depp Has Previously Run Into Issues Because Of His Pets

It remains unknown if any form of compensation was paid to Mr. Ginger, but another local farmer revealed the animals would have cost around £180 [$246] each, and attacks of such nature were common in the area.

“We heard that Johnny Depp’s dog attacked some sheep. It is shocking that these attacks happen, but it happens a lot,” the source, who owns a nearby animal hold, said. “Dog owners need to be more aware. He should do the right thing and offer to pay.”

“I am sure he will do, with the money he has,” they added.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Depp’s dogs have caused him some form of worry.

In 2015, he and his then-wife, Amber Heard, made international headlines after they reportedly failed to properly declare their two Yorkshire Terriers, Pistol and Boo, to customs upon entering Australia.

Depp and Heard’s pets were to be euthanized unless they were removed from the country within 72 hours.

The incident resulted in a now-infamous video apology from the former couple.

Johnny Depp Could Reprise Jack Sparrow Role

Depp could reprise his role as Jack Sparrow as rumors suggest “Pirates of the Caribbean” could see a sixth installment.

The film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, recently offered an update on the chatter, explaining that he has spoken with Depp and thinks the actor would return if he “likes the way the part’s written,” per Entertainment Weekly.

“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” Bruckheimer says. “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”

The producer has previously heaped praises on Depp, explaining that he undoubtedly would like to see him reprise his iconic role.

“It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it,” Bruckheimer said. “I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist, and he has a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page; that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow.”
