Jon Stewart’s time at “The Daily Show” may or may not be coming to an end soon.

The TV host recently revealed that although he intends to stay on for another year, things between him and the cable channel are still on shaky ground

Stewart first hosted “The Daily Show” from 1999 to 2015. He then returned in 2024 to host the show’s Monday episodes.

Jon Stewart’s one-year deal with “The Daily Show” runs until the end of 2025. When asked if he intends to stay on, he said to The New Yorker’s David Remnick,

“We’re working on staying. Look, the other thing to remember is it’s not as clear cut as all that … They’ve already done things that I’m upset about.”

Stewart acknowledged that if he were to approach the matter from a place of integrity, he could either “stand up and go” or he could “stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole.”

However, regardless of which decision is best, the 62-year-old TV personality is determined not to compromise on what he does and plans to keep his show honest and “do it until they tell you to leave,” per Deadline.

A lot has changed since Stewart joined “The Daily Show” for a second time. David Ellison’s Skydance acquired Paramount, and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was shockingly cancelled, which Stewart publicly spoke about.

When it came to the Paramount-Skydance merger, Stewart jokingly said he was “a little worried” about the new owners because he didn’t know if they would let him back into the building.

“But, good news, we have not heard from them, but one of the windows was left unlocked, so here we are,” he jokingly added.

Stewart, who has always publicly criticized the country’s administration, also told Remnick that comedians aren’t the victims of the administration, but the real victims are people who are “forcibly removed from the streets by hooded agents.”

Jon Stewart Returned To ‘The Daily Show’ After 9 Years

Stewart’s statements come nine years after he returned to host the popular show for the second time. Early last year, The Blast announced the TV host’s return to “The Daily Show” after nearly a decade, and fans went into a frenzy over the news.

The network announced the good news via an Instagram post featuring a photo of the comedian posing in the studio. The caption read, “Here it is, your Moment of Zen.”

Several fans reacted ecstatically to the news. One wrote, “The king is back!” and another excitedly penned, “Let’s f- – – ing goooo!!”

A few months after Stewart rejoined the network, his colleague, Stephen Colbert, shockingly announced the cancellation of his show. This sparked concerns over Stewart’s own future with the network.

Speaking on the cancellation of Colbert’s show, Stewart jokingly said, “They haven’t called me and said like, ‘Don’t get too comfortable in that office, Stewart!… I’ve been kicked out of sh-ttier establishments than that. We’ll land on our feet.”

Clearly uneasy, he further stressed that besides “South Park,” “The Daily Show” is “the only sort of life that exists on a current basis,” per The Blast. He also expressed hope that the show brings so much value to Comedy Central that it won’t be booted anytime soon.

Colbert wasn’t the only one who suffered a major blow from the studio network. Jimmy Kimmel’s show also got booted, albeit temporarily, by ABC over some controversial remarks he made about the late Charlie Kirk.

Kimmel kickstarted a political firestorm when he jokingly said that MAGA supporters were “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

As The Blast reported, the 57-year-old comedian’s show was pulled from all of Nexstar’s 200 stations countrywide and there were calls for an on-air apology from him.

However, the suspension sparked backlash from the public, with people accusing the network of trying to silence free speech. As such, the show was reinstated six days after its suspension.

One day after Kimmel’s show was pulled from the airwaves, Stewart, during an episode of “The Daily Show,” reacted to the suspension of his colleague’s show by sarcastically avoiding saying anything controversial about “father” President Donald Trump.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, he praised Trump for visiting London and used overly flattering language, depicting the president as a person with “charm” and “intellect.”

Stewart also jokingly spoke about the First Amendment and pointed out that “our great administration has laid out very clear rules on free speech,” which he thinks is “great.”
