Karoline Leavitt, President Donald Trump’s press secretary, was noticeably absent from a black-tie dinner event at the White House this week.
On Tuesday, the commander in chief hosted an array of high-profile guests including soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, his fiancée Georgina Rodríguez, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman for an evening of fine dining.
Tech mogul Elon Musk was also present at the dinner, mingling with other influential business leaders like Apple CEO Tim Cook. This marked Musk’s first visit to the White House since resigning as head of the Trump administration’s Department for Government Efficiency (Doge) in April.
However, one notable absence was the President’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, who was not featured in any of the event’s photos or videos. The 28 year old’s absence may raise eyebrows as she is typically by the president’s side during such official events.
Leavitt has previously stated that she would not attend certain non-official events, such as the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, due to her objections to the organization.
Just days prior, she shared glimpses of her trip to Palm Beach with her 2.6 million followers through a series of pictures and videos. In a video of herself driving along the sunny coast, she wrote, “The ocean is my happy place.”
Karoline Riccio, the press secretary, shared a glimpse of her breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel in Palm Beach on Instagram, captioning it as “Favorite breakfast spot with my hubs,” referring to her husband Nicholas Riccio, 60.
Later in the day, she posted a more emotional image of a Bible page, highlighting the quote, “For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
She followed this up with another heartfelt quote, “What a privilege it is to have your bed taken up by a small human who thinks it’s the safest place in the world to be,” and wrote “crying” over it.
Karoline didn’t elaborate much on her posts. She and her husband are parents to a little boy named Niko, born on July 10, 2024. She announced his birth on Instagram, describing it as “the best moment of my life.”
Regarding the White House event, Karoline’s boss used it as an opportunity to express his sentiments towards Saudi Arabia. In his speech at the dinner, President Trump praised the strengthening ties with Saudi Arabia, calling it a “major non-NATO ally.”
This came after he hosted the Saudi crown prince in the Oval Office. He also mentioned Portuguese soccer star Ronaldo, telling the guests, “My son is a big fan of Ronaldo. And Baron (Trump) got to meet him, and I think he respects his father a little bit more now, just the fact that I introduced you.”
