Kate Gosselin‘s big day of celebrations didn’t go quite as planned.
On Monday, May 11, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star, 51, shared a glimpse into her weekend, which was spent celebrating both Mother’s Day and her sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel’s 22nd birthdays.
“Birthday/Mother’s Day weekend in pictures (with a scary twist),” Kate wrote over a TikTok montage. “Unfortunately the trip started out rough …”
Indeed, the video shows Leah pulling up in an SUV to pick up her mom before getting into a car accident that left the front of their car completely smashed.
“Fortunately, Leah and I are uninjured,” Kate wrote. “Her car did not fair so well…It’s totaled:( But as they say, the show must go on. We had a BIRTHDAY to celebrate! And lots of catching up to do!”
In the next few clips, Kate is joined by four of the sextuplets as they sit around a table to celebrate their birthdays at a restaurant. Hannah and Collin, who lived with dad Jon Gosselin for several years after their parents’ divorce, were not in attendance.
After celebrating their birthdays with delicious meals and slices of cake, Kate and her family went home to try to make a cake of their own — but that didn’t turn out quite as well as they’d hoped.
“Yet another snafu,” Kate wrote alongside a clip of the cake, which seemed to be crumbling as they attempted to spread chocolate frosting on its surface. “The same cake I’ve made for 20+ years didn’t turn out……Not even Baker Leah could fix it!”

“We even made a second one,” she added. “NOPE!”
Before long, the focus of the Gosselins’ celebrations shifted from the sextuplets’ 22nd birthdays to Mother’s Day.
“Finally we ended the weekend with a Mother’s Day,” Kate wrote over a photo of her lounging on the couch. “Birthday bash combo with a ‘CHUNK’ of my kids.”
And in a final photo of her holding up a fill-in book titled, Just a Few Things I Love About You Mom, she deemed it the “BEST gift my kids have ever given me.”
