Kelly Clarkson may have just dropped the anthem of the summer.
The Grammy winner is busy these days, to say the least. From preparing to wrap up her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, in the fall, and appearing as a Coach in the upcoming 30th season of The Voice, Clarkson still hasn’t forgotten what she does arguably the best: Making hit after hit after hit in the studio!
On July 17, Clarkson released her latest single, “I’d Be Lyin'” — a triumphant, sing-a-long pop track that harkens back to earlier in her career. The track invokes the same kind of emotion in listeners that her smash hit “Since U Been Gone” did over two decades ago. Listen to “I’d Be Lyin'” here!
Clarkson didn’t simply quietly release the song without any additional info — she recently told the story behind the track.

Kelly Clarkson reveals the “fun” and “sarcastic” meaning behind “I’d Be Lyin'”
On July 13, Clarkson opened up on SiriusXM about the meaning behind her newest song — and the subject matter many fans can relate to so well.
“Basically, my new song ‘I’d Be Lyin” is about when you’re talking to someone and what you’re saying is somehow being filtered, ’cause it’s not what they’re hearing,” Clarkson explained. “And if I’d just leaned in and said what they wanted to hear, I would be lying.”

“I’d Be Lyin'” is the kind of song that blows the roof off the arenas Clarkson has called home over the years during her many tours — and that’s by design. In fact, Clarkson revealed that the new track will remind fans from past songs in her catalog.
“The vibe in the verse is kind of… it’s not like Prince, but it’s Prince-inspired with the staccato poppiness of it. It has a lot of attitude,” she continued. “And then the chorus opens up into this major pop-rock vibe that is very reminiscent of a Kelly Clarkson empowerment anthem. But yeah, it’s very sarcastic, it was fun as hell to make, and I like a fun, anthemic, sarcastic song — as you probably know.”
The song is well on its way to becoming this summer’s anthem — could “I’d Be Lyin'” become the 32nd Clarkson song that has charted on the Billboard Hot 100? Fans sure seem to think so.
