Over the past few episodes of Love Island USA, a lot of the focus has been on KC & Aniya. This storyline captivated social media discourse, with fans aggressively taking sides in the discourse and even celebrities weighing in. Trinity and Bryce also are charting their path to winning the entire show as Season 8 draws to an end.
However, there are other storylines that are festering that are just as important.
Kayda & Zach Confound Me
I really don’t even know what to say about Kayda and Zach at this point. It just feels like, at certain points, they’re going through the motions and then adding a little bit of drama to keep the audience engaged, and then ultimately they act as if they’re cool once again.
I honestly wonder if they’re playing it safe and ultimately trying to stay together so they can get one step closer to winning the prize money. Because I just don’t really see the spark between them. Zach has certainly played in Kayda’s face multiple times, but you don’t hear her speaking about Zach in the ways that she has consistently spoken about KC. You don’t hear Kayda saying these pejoratives about Zach for his actions in the villa that might seem childish, odd, or self-preserving. But Kayda had everything to say about KC in service of Aniya.
I just don’t even know what to think about these two, outside of the fact that they’re clearly working their way towards trying to win the money and win the show. But I don’t think their act is really serving their purpose.
I’m Not the Biggest Fan of Kenzie but…
Throughout this Love Island experience, I have not been the biggest fan of Kenzie, and I hated the early focus on her in the season. I think that the way she treated Zach after the recoupling was unfair, given the fact that they just got to the villa, and I don’t think he intended to be disrespectful towards her. And also, I agree with the sector of the Love Island fandom that says that Gabriel was maligned for how he carried himself in the villa. But Kenzie has carried herself the same way.
But what I must say is that I don’t really feel any negativity at how Kenzie handled her conversation with Corbin, because Corbin literally did disrespect Kenzie and play with her. He told her one thing before Casa. Then went to Casa, said that he wasn’t really rocking with Kenzie anymore immediately after walking in during the heartbeat challenge, and then brought Parmida back after all of it.
This is why I say that based on the actions that are happening on the show, I have no problem with both Sincere and Corbin being harshly criticized. Because the way that Corbin did Kenzie was foul, and I see no problem with how she handled that conversation.
Now, Corbin has grown on me because we’ve seen way more of his personality, but he did Kenzie very dirty and deserved all the smoke that she gave him.
Melanie Is Not Practicing What She’s Preaching
So, after two rather explosive episodes, Episode 24 of Love Island USA shifts the focus a bit from KC and Aniya to Sincere, Melanie, and the return of Amora. For the life of me, I don’t understand how Sincere has been able to make it on Love Island and not have his lies and manipulation to now three women on the show spotlighted.
We see on camera him flip-flopping and telling the women whatever he feels as if he needs to advance his agenda, yet there barely is any discourse about it. But I don’t blame the fans of the show, because Melanie also does the same thing. The fact that she’s routinely been shown red flags from Sincere, yet she still has continued to give him chance after chance unconditionally, is rather odd to me. And it’s especially odd after how she characterized KC and threw pejorative after pejorative at him, characterizing who he is as a man, his actions, and how she perceived he’s treated Aniya in their separate relationship.
But Sincere has consistently played with her, and she even was notified of this by several of the men during the Casa Amor twist. And she still decides to stand beside him. At a point, it feels incredibly hypocritical. Because it doesn’t matter who is telling her what happened, she listened to the guys and still decided to take Sincere back. Both Tierra and Amora told her of how Sincere was moving in Casa Amor, which lines up with what the guys were saying to her during their time in the villa. But she’s deciding to step back into the relationship.
Is she playing it safe? Does she have the $100,000 on her mind? Or is she really willing to put up with major disrespect from the guy that she’s coupled up with—the very same behavior she’s imploring Aniya to not put up with? It’s very interesting because it seems as if, for a lot of the women in the villa, they’re throwing rocks in a glass house.
It’s crazy because Sincere is admitting that he has been dishonest, yet no one says a word, and he ultimately always finds his way back to the person that he’s being dishonest with. The only person that has ever held him accountable is Sol. And Sol isn’t a neutral party here because she presented her own level of issues, specifically when she left the villa with how she spoke about both Aniya and KC. Still, her calling Sincere out was refreshing.
