King Charles has extended an olive branch to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle through a heartwarming gesture believed to come directly from the monarch himself.
Like most families, the King displays photographs of his relatives throughout his various residences, but one particular decision reveals his desire to mend fences with Harry and Meghan.
The Mirror reports that Charles, 76, has deliberately chosen to showcase pictures of the Sussexes across his official Northern Irish residence, Hillsborough Castle, particularly in the State Drawing Room, despite the couple stepping back from Royal duties in 2020. A source revealed to the publication: “Royal Historic Palaces make decisions on what they believe to be appropriate. They are also guided by members of The Royal Family, but the decision over what pictures of the family to use ultimately lies with the King.”
Recent years have witnessed mounting tensions within the Royal family following Harry and Meghan’s choice to resign as senior working Royals in 2020, reports the Express.
While Hillsborough Castle serves as the official Royal residence in Northern Ireland, Historic Royal Palaces has overseen the estate since April 2014 and welcomes paying visitors.
The property boasts 98 acres of stunning ornamental gardens, tranquil woodland and winding waterways. Relations between Harry and his father have eased following Harry’s swift arrival in the UK within hours of learning about his father’s cancer diagnosis.
Subsequently, King Charles welcomed his younger son at Clarence House last month, where the two shared tea together.
After the King and Harry’s recent meeting, reports emerged suggesting the encounter was “distinctly formal,” with the Duke allegedly feeling treated like an “official visitor”.
Nevertheless, a representative for the Duke swiftly refuted this account, stating: “Recent reporting of The Duke’s view of the tone of the meeting is categorically false.”
The spokesperson continued: “The quotes attributed to him are pure invention fed, one can only assume, by sources intent on sabotaging any reconciliation between father and son. Presumably, those same sources have also chosen to disclose that gifts were exchanged.
“While we would have preferred such details to remain private, for the sake of clarity, we can confirm that a framed photograph was handed over; however, the image did not contain the Duke and Duchess.”
