The community can soon tune in to the radio and visit the Lawrence library for a full day of free live classical music performances.

Hosted by Cordelia Brown and Kaye McIntyre, KPR’s 2025 Live Day is set for Friday, Oct. 24.

More than seven hours of live music will round out with a final Halloween-inspired concert, according to a news release, and local vocalists and instrumentalists will be featured.

“The day will conclude with skeleton songs, terrifying tunes and music of classical de-composers,” the release says.

Daylong schedule

Concerts at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., are broadcast and free to the public in person as space allows. Those at the KPR station are not open to attend in person but will be broadcast.

• The University of Kansas Glee Club and Oread Singers will kick off the day with performance at the KPR station at 9 a.m. Friday.

• Music from the Lyric Arts Trio of Kansas City will follow starting at 10 a.m. in the library’s auditorium. Performances throughout the day will continue to alternate between the library and the KPR station each hour until 3 p.m.

The lineup also includes Trio Lawrence, strings duo Madeleine and Syneva, violinist David Colwell and pianist Ellen Sommer, and the music of Robert and Lyra Pherigo, according to the release.

• The evening concert, “Halloween Spooktacular,” will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the library. Destiny Ann Mermagen, KPR evening classical host and violinist, will be accompanied by pianist Hyunsoon Whang, percussionist John Currey and cellist Michael Mermagen.

Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes and participate in a costume contest that’ll begin at 6:15 p.m. before the concert starts. Treats will be provided.

The evening concert crowd in 2024 filled quickly, according to the release, so organizers recommend arriving early.

KPR broadcasts on 91.5 FM and 96.1 FM in Lawrence in addition to other stations for surrounding cities. Listeners can also gain access on the website, kansaspublicradio.org.
