Who is Lauren Bennett? Robin Antin, bandmates remember her legacy
Bennett’s former G.R.L. bandmates Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen announced her death in a heartfelt Instagram post Monday, July 6, writing, “It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren.”
“Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us,” they continued. “We will forever cherish the love, laughter, and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved. Rest peacefully, sweet Lauren. You will always be in our hearts. Your GRLs, Em, Tash, and P.”
Best known for her feature on LMFAO’s chart-topping 2011 song, “Party Rock Anthem” – which sat at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks at the time – Bennett was also remembered by one of her longtime friends and industry mentor, Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin.
“To my beautiful best friend Lauren Bennett, there are some people who come into your life and become so much more than a friend. Lauren, you were my family, from the age of 16, when we first met, my chosen sister, my creative partner, and such a treasured part of my heart,” Antin wrote in a lengthy July 9 Instagram post.
“Those who knew you as an artist, knew the extraordinary talent that you were & will be forever … beautiful, captivating, and endlessly gifted. But I had the privilege of knowing the Lauren behind the spotlight,” Antin continued, calling Bennett “wonderfully funny, delightfully silly, endlessly caring, fiercely loyal and the kind of friend who made everyone around you feel loved.”
Praising Bennett’s “contagious” laugh, smile and heart, Antin said they “shared so much together, so many years of dreams, so many stages and so many unforgettable moments.” She further noted her admiration for the late singer’s “talent and spirit.”
“There will never be another Lauren Bennett,” Antin wrote. “My heart aches everyday knowing that I can’t see you, call you & that you aren’t able to witness the incredible outpouring of love and recognition that has followed. You deserved every bit of it while you were here.
“I truly believe, somehow, that you can feel it now. I hope you know just how deeply you were loved, how profoundly you mattered and how many lives you changed simply by being you. Above all, let’s honor Lauren with the grace and the compassion she deserves during this unimaginable time,” Antin concluded. “You have left a mark on this world that will never fade and a placed in my heart that can never be filled. I love & miss you endlessly, my beautiful friend. Love Robin! Xx.”
Antin previously reshared a message from Bennett’s father, Robert Bennett, confirming “the loss of my beautiful and talented daughter” on July 7. He added, “Lauren was an incredible person and artist: creative, talented, funny, and as humble as she was beautiful. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and made a lasting impact on countless lives through her music, her kindness, and the way she made people feel.”
He also revealed details about Bennett’s health, claiming that “months before her death, Lauren experienced a severe reaction to a prescribed medication. As a family, we all rallied around her and did everything we could to support her.”
“We have no suspicions regarding the circumstances of her death, only deep disappointment that, for five months, medical professionals and NHS services failed to treat her appropriately during her time of greatest need,” Robert Bennett said.
“Lauren was deeply loved and will be missed every day for the rest of our lives,” the post read. “I hope she will be remembered for her remarkable achievements, her beautiful music, and the incredible person she was. Her legacy lives on through her daughter, her family, and through the music she leaves behind.”
Bennett began her career at 18, forming the Paradiso Girls. They dropped their debut single “Patron Tequila” in 2009, before she went on to release music on her own.
During her solo career, Bennett collaborated with major artists such as CeeLo Green, will.i.am and LMFAO. She later joined G.R.L., which is behind tunes including “Vacation,” “Wild Wild Love” with Pitbull and “Ugly Heart.”
