Sandra Bullock is opening up about the Nicole Kidman few people get to see, and her recent words about the actress feel especially meaningful after her Keith Urban divorce.
Ahead of Practical Magic 2 opening in movie theaters on September 11, Bullock and Kidman celebrated the original 1998 film’s upcoming release on 4K UHD. In a clip shared by People, the women’s longtime friendship was on display as they discussed Kidman’s character, Gillian — and it feels very coded to the Australian actress’ current life.

“Gillian is really brave. I always wish I could be more like that in life. She knows what she is. She embraces what she is, and she fully leans into it,” Bullock explained in the video.

“I don’t want to reject who I am and what I am, and I love being who I am. Gillian has her own barriers and walls, which is, ‘Well, I’m just gonna have fun, and I know I’ll never be able to experience love or have love, but that’s okay,'” Kidman said of Gillian.
That’s when Bullock gave fans more insight into Kidman’s real-life personality, adding, “She’s playing a character, but you are seeing a lot of who Nicole really is. She’s free and wild and adventurous and is always doing something amazing.”
The duo spent the summer of 2025 filming the Practical Magic sequel in London. While fans were excited to see the dream team back together, little did they know that there was a big shift in Kidman’s personal life. Her marriage to Urban after 19 years was coming to an end, and Bullock gave a slight hint to Vogue that changes were coming to her friend’s life.
“It seems both of our mothers raised VERY independent women,” Bullock told the media outlet while Kidman described their reunion as “joyful.”
The news of Kidman and Urban’s split was shocking when it was revealed by TMZ in September 2025. They reported that the couple separated ahead of Kidman’s move to the U.K. for the Practical Magic 2 shoot. It was allegedly a “one-sided” end to their union by Urban because “Nicole did not want the separation and has been trying to save the marriage.”
Kidman and Urban married in June 2006, and were officially divorced in January 2026. They share two children, daughters Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15.
