Oakland First Fridays seeks sponsors as funding challenges force entertainment cuts

Fans of the Sex Pistols got some disappointing news this week regarding the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Band members Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock, along with guest vocalist Frank Carter, reformed the iconic English rock band in 2024. The group has been touring recently, but that will be out on hold due to an injury to Jones, the lead guitarist.

On Tuesday, the four musicians shared a joint message on social media announcing that Jones had broken his wrist. As a result, all upcoming North and South American tour dates would be postponed.

“We regret to announce that Steve Jones has broken his wrist. As a result all North and South American performances have been postponed and will be rescheduled when he has fully recovered,” the message said. “Please check local venue websites and our social media for more information. We appreciate your understanding and support.”

In a separate post, Jones himself shared a message to fans, pledging to get back on stage as soon as possible.

“I’ve got some good news and bad news. What do you want first? Okay, the bad news: I’ve broken my wrist, so unfortunately we won’t be doing any shows for a while,” Jones said.

“The good news is the surgeon said I will be back playing guitar in the not-too-distant future. The other good news is I’ll be 70 tomorrow! God bless, and God save the wrist.”

The Sex Pistols had upcoming shows in Brazil, Chile and Argentina, and were set to kick off the North American leg of their tour on Sept. 16 in Dallas, with concerts running through Oct. 17 in Las Vegas.

A bittersweet birthday

Jones turned 70 on Wednesday, a milestone that he unfortunately spent unable to perform his greatest gift due to his recent injury.

Nevertheless, the “God Save the Queen” and “Anarchy in the UK” guitarist’s bandmates wished him a happy birthday on social media, with fans chiming in.

“Jonesy turns 70! happy birthday to the one and only @jonesysjukebox, ya beautiful bastard,” the message reads.
