After showing bizarre behavior on a busy LA street and allegedly charging at police officers, “Old Town Road” rapper-singer Lil Nas X was hospitalized and then booked into a Los Angeles County jail on Thursday morning.
The Los Angeles Police Department said they were responding to a call about an unclothed man walking in Ventura Boulevard in Studio City when Lil Nas X, whose given name is Montero Lamar Hill, charged at officers who arrived at the scene.
“This morning, around 5:50 am, officers responded to the 11000 block of Ventura Bl for a nude man walking in the street. Upon arrival, the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for battery on a Police Officer,” the LAPD said in a statement to celebrity.land.
A law enforcement source claimed that Hill punched an officer twice in the face, NBC News reported.
As of Thursday afternoon, Hill was in custody at the Valley Jail in Van Nuys, according to online booking records.
TMZ published video footage of Hill captured by an onlooker appearing to follow him before his hospitalization and arrest. The footage shows Hill strutting and posing in the middle of Ventura Boulevard in cowboy boots and underwear. He is also heard singing and repeatedly inviting the person recording to a party.
The incident comes after he wiped his Instagram and made a series of seemingly random posts.
Lil Nas X took the world by storm with his country rap song “Old Town Road” in 2019. The artist also stirred controversy with his 2021 song “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name).” In a provocative music video for the song, Hill slides down a pole to hell and gives the devil a lap dance, angering conservatives and homophobes.
Hill spoke to Variety in 2020 about the struggles he faced during his rise to fame as a young adult.
“So much happened during my rise. You know, drugs and murders,” Hill said. “And my grandmother passing (in 2018)— she was the first person close to me who died. It was devastating. And it made me a hypochondriac: I’d wake up, heart racing. It was scary.”
He also said he would self-medicate by “smoking [weed] heavily.”
“But then I started feeling more connected with the universe, and taking everything as a sign,” he added.
Hill also noted: “The biggest surprise of becoming globally famous? On the outside, everybody loves you — but on the inside, everything [feels] the same.”
celebrity.land reached out to Hill’s legal representatives, but they declined to comment.
