Pen Pals is written by Michael Griffo and directed by SuzAnne Barabas.
“The response to Pen Pals has been extraordinary, and we are thrilled to extend the run into the new year,” producer Lisa Dozier Shacket said in a statement to Playbill. “This story of enduring friendship clearly resonates with audiences across generations, and it’s a privilege to welcome an incredible new group of women to bring Bernie and Mags to life. Each actress brings her own heart and perspective to the roles, deepening the ways this story continues to touch and inspire.”
In addition to Gilbert and Cox, other duos in the rotating lineup for Pen Pals include: Kathleen Chalfant and Ellen McLaughlin (Oct. 1–12), Priscilla Lopez and Pauletta Pearson Washington (Oct. 15–26), Catherine Curtin and Marcia Cross (Oct. 29–Nov. 9), Sharon Lawrence and Maureen McCormick (Nov. 12-23), Paige Davis and Montego Glover (Nov. 25–Dec. 7), Donna Lynn Champlin and Emily Skinner (Dec. 10–21), Mercedes Ruehl and another TBA performer (Jan. 7–18) and Randy Graff and Beth Leavel (Jan. 21–Feb. 1).
