Sometimes, the accessories come first and the dress comes second. You’d better believe I zoomed in to get a closer look at this necklace on Lucy Liu, worn to the fifth annual gala at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles last weekend. Up close, it’s a glorious garden of jewels blooming like flowers (including a rare Australian black opal), created by Australian jewelry designer Margot McKinney. But I’m showing you the whole picture here, because I love how the dress, designed by Sohee Park, is both simple and dramatic, creating a background for the necklace while still telling a vivid story of its own.
