Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stephanie had an important anniversary to mark this week, as they marked their departure from Fischbach Castle.
The royal couple and their children have been residing in the residence for the past six years, but following his accession to the throne, they will be moving to Berg Castle. The residence will now be lived in by Guillaume’s parents, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.
To mark their departure, Guillaume and his family hosted a party in the grounds of the residence for the citizens of the town of Fischbach. A statue of the royal couple was unveiled in the nearby town as hundreds of residents headed to enjoy the festivities.
But two special guests ended up stealing the show at the event, those being Guillaume and Stephanie’s two children, Prince Charles, six, and Prince Francois, three.
The royal brothers looked adorable dressed in matching striped shirts. Guillaume could be seen being a doting dad as he carried his youngest to the celebrations, while Charles charged ahead with his mother.
Little Francois melted hearts when he was seen sitting at a set of drums, holding the instrument’s red sticks aloft. The youngster could also be seen playing with other children at the event, attempting to plant a Luxembourg flag in the stony paths.
A caption on their Instagram page read: “This Thursday, the municipality of Fischbach celebrated the ‘Joyful Departure’ of Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, residents of the eponymous castle since 2020. On this occasion, a monument in honour of Grand Duke Guillaume was unveiled in the village.
“In preparation for their departure, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess invited all the residents to a friendly and warm reception in the grounds of Fischbach Castle.”
It concluded: “The Grand Ducal Couple will soon be moving to Berg Castle, while Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa will be taking up residence in Fischbach.”
Charles’ recent birthday
Charles turned six earlier this month, and to mark the occasion, the monarchy shared a series of tender and heartwarming photographs showing the birthday boy enjoying a sunny day with his family in the gardens of the royal residence. In the snapshots, the young heir was seen either alone or with his parents and his younger brother.
The young royal also had an epic birthday cake, that carried a forest theme, including plenty of woodland creatures like bears, foxes and deer.
Despite his young age, the grandson of Henri and Maria Teresa of Luxembourg has already experienced very important moments for the Grand Ducal House, such as the proclamation of Guillaume seven months ago.
At that solemn ceremony, the boy entered hand in hand with his grandmother and, throughout the session in the Chamber of Deputies, remained very attentive to what was happening.
