How Taylor Swift Turned a Lifelong Love of ‘Toy Story’ Into New Music

Free Summer Events in Downtown San Antonio

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

GREG FREEMAN – “SALESMAN”

Rising indie-country artist Greg Freeman’s sophomore album Burnover comes out this Friday and (spoiler) it’s very good. While you wait to hear the whole thing, here’s one more taste.

JEFF TWEEDY – “FEEL FREE”

“The freedom I’m talking about in this song comes in both small doses and large doses,” says Jeff Tweedy of “Feel Free” from his upcoming triple album Twilight Override. “It arrives at me, at the most free I feel in my life. Which is making a record with my friends and singing a song that I feel like is a part of the past, present and future.”

—

MAC DEMARCO – “PHANTOM”

For all his burping and rude jokes, Mac DeMarco’s a softie at heart. “Phantom” is sweet and pretty. New album Guitar is out this week.

HAND HABITS – “BLUEBIRD OF HAPPINESS”

”One day my partner asked what birdsong we were hearing through the window and I was like, ’well that’s the bluebird of happiness obviously,’ and it became a joke song I would sing around the house, but then it grew wings.” Meg Duffy says when asked about the late single from upcoming album Blue Reminder. “I also got curious about the history of the bluebird of happiness, and found that it has mythological significance. It’s interesting how a symbol like that functions subconsciously, or in the collective unconscious. Even when we might not know everything about its origins, or when it’s almost become a pop cliche, maybe there’s some essence or a through-line that can remain true. Or the cliche itself can become material to play with. And I think because I can have an aversion to sentimentality in my songwriting, it felt exciting and fun to go there. And it does feel like such a hopeful song to me, though this bluebird has definitely seen some things, which is reflected in the production too.”

CLAIRE ROUSAY – “JUST” (FEAT. M SAGE)

claire rousay has announced new album a little death that will be out October 31. Sage.

PAZ LENCHANTIN – “HANG TOUGH”

Paz Lenchantin, who’s played in Pixies, A Perfect Circle and Zwan, has announced new solo album Triste, out October 17 on her own imprint, Hideous Human Records. BAR ITALIA – “FUNDRAISER”
