TV Personality Mel Schilling Receives Outpouring of Support Following Cancer Diagnosis Update

Renowned TV personality and relationship coach Mel Schilling has recently shared the heartbreaking news that her cancer is now untreatable. The 54-year-old Australian star, best known for her role on the popular dating reality show Married At First Sight (Mafs), revealed that the disease has unfortunately spread to the left side of her brain. Doctors have delivered the difficult prognosis, informing her that “there is nothing further they can do.”

Schilling took to Instagram to convey the devastating update, describing how her “world changed” in an instant upon receiving the news of the cancer’s progression. She candidly admitted that her “light is starting to fade.”

The news has prompted a significant wave of support from various public figures, many of whom have personal connections to Schilling or the show.

Messages of Solidarity and Love

Among those sending messages of comfort and strength is Davina McCall, who herself underwent surgery for breast cancer in October. McCall commented on Schilling’s post with a heartfelt message: “Hey xxxxx sending you love and light,” accompanied by a supportive heart emoji.

Fellow television presenter Holly Willoughby also expressed her concern, writing: “Sending so much love… thinking of you and the family.”

Australian pop singer Dannii Minogue, despite not knowing Schilling for a long time, conveyed a powerful message of admiration and support. Minogue wrote:

“You are small but mighty, with such a huge heart.
I have not known you long, but you are so loved by so many. My heart breaks for you and your beautiful family.
Looking forward to holding your tiny hand, laughing so loud and dancing it off. Always here to bring you some Aussie sunshine.”

A Journey Through Treatment and Setbacks

Schilling, who provides expert relationship advice on Channel 4’s Married At First Sight, had previously undergone treatment for colon cancer in 2023. However, a subsequent routine scan several months later revealed “small nodules” in her lungs. These nodules have since spread, impacting her brain and causing severe symptoms, including “blinding headaches and numbness” down the right side of her body.

The TV personality detailed her treatment journey, explaining that while filming Mafs, she endured 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. Despite these efforts, she has now been informed that her cancer is beyond further curative treatment.

She elaborated on this difficult period:

“Over the past two years, while filming Mafs, I underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy and was later told I was eligible for a ground-breaking clinical trial specific to my gene type, due to start in March 2026. Once again, my optimism soared that I might beat this thing.
Over Christmas, however, I began experiencing blinding headaches and numbness down my right side.
After many tests I was told the cancer had spread to the left side of my brain and, despite subsequent radiotherapy sessions, my oncology team have now told me there is nothing further they can do.
Hearing those words changes everything.”

Embracing the Fight with Love and Support

Despite the grim prognosis, Schilling remains resolute in her determination to fight. She expressed her current state:

“My light is starting to fade — and quickly. But I am still here, still fighting, and surrounded by the most incredible love.
Simple tasks have become incredibly difficult and I am relying on my beautiful family to look after me. I honestly don’t know how long I have left, but I do know I will fight to my last breath and will be surrounded by the love and support of my people.”

Schilling extended her gratitude to those who have sent messages of encouragement, stating that they have been instrumental in helping her “shape the mindset” needed to “keep fighting.”

She concluded her message with a vital piece of advice for her followers: “If I could leave you with one thing, it would simply be this: if something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life.”

This personal update comes shortly after Mel Schilling announced her decision to step back from the Australian version of Married At First Sight after 12 seasons as an expert. In a statement released by Channel 4, it was confirmed that John Aiken, another expert on the Australian panel, would be stepping in to replace Schilling for the remainder of the UK series currently in production. A spokesperson for Channel 4 expressed their deep sadness at the news, stating, “All of us at Channel 4 are immeasurably saddened by the news about Mel’s health, and are sending all of our love and support to Mel and her family.”
