MARATHON CITY, Wis. (WSAW) – Polka music is coming to the area of Marathon thanks to the Marathon City Heritage Center.
This is part of a three-part concert series hosted by the organization each year as its biggest fundraiser.
On Tuesday, folks will be able to enjoy some Polka with a music performance by Curt Pliske & Polka Spirit.
“Curt Pliske & Polka Spirit, their a local Polka band, and Polka is a real fan favorite around Marathon because we were settled by German immigrants, and German and Polish population is very prevalent in the area, so they really enjoy this type of music,” said the organization’s board president, Edee Ruplinger.
The series began in June with a performance from Cameron Sonnentag. The second concert happened in July with Bob Allen, who played acoustic pop and rock.
However, for those not into music, the organization is also hosting a wine tasting and art walk right before the concert takes place.
At 5 p.m., those attending the walk will meet at the Copper Mug to pay for their wine and look at art created for the Auxiliary Art Fair.
“Starting at the Cuper Mug, they will purchase a glass of wine, look through the art work and then they walk to Pizza Market which is about five blocks away. They’ll look at the art there and then cross the street to the Heritage Center where they can view the rest of the art pieces and enjoy the concert for the rest of the evening,” Ruplinger said.
The artwork featured in the walk is part of the Auxiliary Art Fair and is sponsored by the Alois Dreikosen Unit #469 American Legion Auxiliary.
Each piece was made with a patriotic theme.
Though the art walk is not free, the concert is.
Aside from music, there will also be raffle tickets, food and drinks for purchase.
The proceeds will go toward the operating expenses of the Marathon City Heritage Center.
The concert is at 6 p.m. and parking is available on the street.
Those attending the concert are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
