Prince Harry and Meghan Markle lost their access to Frogmore Cottage after their public remarks against the royal family.
According to expert Tom Sykes, there’s a chance that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could’ve kept their Windsor residence if they hadn’t made shocking accusations about The Firm.
“Harry and Meghan actually didn’t give the royal family very much choice other than to evict them from the property,” the journalist said during an episode of “The Royalist” podcast.

“Had they left and not then spent the next five years chucking rocks at the institution, trying to smash, burn everything down, burn every bridge, I think they would have probably been allowed to keep Frogmore Cottage,” Sykes said.
“If they hadn’t gone public with all their resentments, they hadn’t made all the films, they hadn’t written the books, they hadn’t called the royal family racist…” he added.
Harry and Meghan were asked to formally vacate the residence in 2023 following their move to California in 2020.
In 2021, the couple sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a shocking tell-all interview about their time as senior working royals.
“In those months when I was pregnant [with Prince Archie]… we have in tandem the conversation of, ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” Meghan told the former talk show host during their sit-down.
“There were several conversations about it,” she claimed. “I think that would be very damaging to them. That was relayed to me from Harry. Those were conversations that his family had with him. It was really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalized conversations.”
While King Charles III waited until after Queen Elizabeth II‘s 2022 death to ask his son and his daughter-in-law to move out officially, Harry and Meghan believe they wouldn’t have been asked to leave if Her Majesty were still alive.
“I actually think Harry and Meghan are right about this, because if there was one thing the Queen hated, it was confrontation,” Sykes said.

“What the Sussex side are telling me now is that King Charles waited until after the Queen had died to kick Harry out,” he continued. “They say that the Queen would have blocked it because it was her wedding gift to them.”
According to an insider, Frogmore Cottage is currently undergoing renovations to remove any trace of the pair.
“It’s been empty for three years. Even Andrew [Mountbatten-Windsor] thought it wasn’t good enough for him to move in,” a source told The Sun, while referring to the disgraced former Duke of York.
Harry and Meghan currently reside with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in a mansion in Montecito, Calif.

“I was in New York last week, and I was meeting with somebody who lives fairly near them, and they said to me that that house that they occupy in Montecito is like a source of laughing stock,” Sykes said during an earlier episode of “The Royalist” podcast.
“It’s kind of shameful because, of course, in America, if you’re a billionaire and you buy a house, I mean, what’s the first thing you do? Knock it down, you know, or at the very least remodel it, you know?” he noted. “And there they are, still sort of padding around in a kitchen that looks straight out of the Olive Garden, you know, circa 1994.”
As far as the duo’s tension with their relatives across the pond, Harry and Meghan know the wounds won’t be easy to heal.
“They’re not approaching it with the expectation of a quick resolution. It’s about taking small, manageable steps and seeing where things land,” an insider told People.
